The 4-month-old German shepherd named “Cheshire” has become the subject of a social media campaign calling for him to get a new name.
The dog’s owner, Laura Peterman, tweeted on Sunday: “The dog is Cheshire and now my baby girl is Chesshire!”
“The dog has just been named by the people at the #GreatDanePetition #PuppySolutions and theres only 1 way to get #PetsHappiness,” she wrote.
The campaign, which has received more than 5,000 likes and 10,000 retweets, has also gained support from dog owners who want to get rid of the name.
A source at the campaign said: “I think it is time for Cheshire to be called Cheshire!”
He is a great dog and I feel the same way.
I would love to see him get a name that is more popular with the general public,” said Katie Dallman, a dog owner from Melbourne, Australia.
Cheshires name has gained support as well.
The hashtag #PETSHAPPY is being used to share photos of Cheshire wearing a collar and hat with a message: “Your name is Cheshires.”
The campaign has gained a lot of support on social media, with users sharing the story on social networks including Facebook and Twitter.
